This half term, we have enjoyed learning about Space. We began the half term by designing and building rockets with our Y6 buddies. Then we learnt about Tim Peake and looked at some experiments that he performed on the International Space Station. After that, we set up our own science lab and used our scientific enquiry to explore what happens to water when you add different types of teabags. Following that, we have learnt about different planets in our solar system and learnt lots of new vocabulary related to space. We have also enjoyed a week learning about Chinese New Year, looking at the similarities and differences between the different ways people celebrate new year. Have a lovely half-term break everyone!
It has been a fantastic start to life at St Leonards this half term. We have learnt lots about ourselves in our topic ‘This is ME!’. We have worked hard within the ‘understanding the world’ strand of the EYFS curriculum. The children have explored their senses and learnt the different parts of their body in Science. In Geography, we have looked at pictures of the Lancashire countryside and recreated artwork by David Hockney. During our ‘Forest Fun’ sessions, we have been exploring autumn and looked closely at the changes autumn has made to our school grounds. In RE, we have been exploring harvest, linking this to our learning outside. The children have all settled in well and have began learning new sounds in phonics and exploring 2d shapes and patterns in Maths.
