We started this half term with a fantastic trip to the Harris Museum. We learnt all about old toys and even made an old toy to take home.
In geography, we have been learning about the seasons and we enjoyed our entry point where we had to sort different items of clothing into the different seasons.
In science, we have been finding out about humans and animals. We can now name different body parts and understand how our senses work.
In art, we have been looking at sculptures and made our own land art sculpture using salt dough. We are excited for this to set over half term and then we can paint it.
We have had a busy half term learning all about toys from the past. We really enjoyed our entry point where we got to bring in our favourite toy and share it with our friends. We found out about toys our parents and grandparents played with and compared them to our toys today.
We have been working hard in English and learnt the poem Miss Polly had a Dolly off by heart. We enjoyed writing this poem using the text map to help us. We also used the poem to write different things including a thank you letter to the doctor and a description of the dolly.
We worked really hard to learn the songs for the Nativity and enjoyed performing this to the rest of the school and our families.
We have had a very busy half term finding all about the similarities and differences between the UK and Spain. We have found out where the UK is on a map and are beginning to remember the four countries which make up the UK. We have also found out about the houses in the UK and Spain and looked at things that are the same and things that are different.
In Art, we have been working really hard on our drawing skills. We know different types of media that we can draw and write with and we now know that we can use different media on different surfaces. We have been using light and dark lines when drawing and looking for shapes in objects to help us draw them.
In Science we have been busy finding out about materials. We have tested which material is best for the roof of a lego house and which material is best to use for a pair of curtains. We can now name different materials and went on a material hunt around school.
Our First Week in September|
We have settled in to our new class really well. The year 1 children are very helpful and try to look after the reception children. The reception children are looking very smart in their uniforms and have settled into our class.
We have been reading We're Going on a Bear Hunt and we were told that a bear was on the loose on the playground! We went on our own bear hunt and found a bear - a teddy bear! We named him Bobby and he will be going home for the weekend with Star of the Week.
