Class News

Spring 1

|

This half term, the charildren have been finding out about volcanoes and earthquakes. They have been researching all about different volcanoes around the world, how a volcano erupts and how they can stay safe in an earthquake. Everyone produced some fantastic homework and they all enjoyed explaining their work to the class. We even managed to erupt some of our volcanoes!

In English, the children enjoyed reading and retelling 'The Tin Forest.' They all changed the story so that the old man visited another world. They have then written persuasive letters to encourage people to use less plastic. In maths, the children have been reading scales to measure length and mass. After half term, we will be looking at using our times tables to multiply and divide larger numbers. Please continue to practise these at home.

Autumn 2

|

We have enjoyed learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age in our history lessons. We found out about how they gathered food and the tools they used to do this. We really enjoyed creating cave paintings like Stone Age people did. In science we have been finding out about rocks. We found out about different types of rocks and soils. In DT, we have enjoyed making a litter picker in the skills hub. Have a very merry Christmas and a great break.

A fantastic first half term!

This half term the children have been really busy. In Maths, they have been continuing to use their understanding of place value to help them continue number sequences and compare numbers. They have also been practising using different methods to add together 3 digit numbers.

In English, the children have been finding out lots about India. They have all written non-chronological reports on India and biographies about Mother Teresa. As part of their work on India, they have been looking at the artist Jamini Roy. They have practised using oil pasterls, water colour paints and different pencils in the artisit's style. They have then used a piece of artwork as inspiration to create their own self portraits. Take a look at some of their fantastic final pieces.

In Science, the children have been exploring magnets. They have looked at how they work and different magnetic materials.

The children have settled into India class really well. There are many new things to learn now they are in year 3 and they have all been helping one another and working together. The first topic is Investigating India and they have been finding out lots of new information about this country. In Science, our first topic is Forces and our scientist is Fabiola Gianotti. The children will be finding out about who she is and her work over the next few weeks.
