Autumn 2

|

This half term, we have really enjoyed reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and we have written our own versions of the beginning of a new Narnia adventure story, they are brilliant! In Maths, we have been doing lots of practise of long multiplication and division using chunking. Please do practise your times tables over the Christmas holidays! In Science, we have been looking at Sound and learning all about how sounds are made, how we can change the pitch of different instruments. We had lots of fun making our own Pan Pipes to show how to change pitch by shortening the straws to different lengths. In History, we’ve been learning all about the Romans, how they invaded Britain and how they’ve impacted Britain today. In Art, we looked at the Roman mosaics and then created our own Mosaic coasters. We’ve really enjoyed having someone in to teach us Cricket each week and we’ve got really good at batting and fielding. I hope you all have a lovely Merry Christmas and a great break.

Autumn Term

|

We have all settled really well into Year 4 this Autumn 1 and we have been very busy! In Maths, we've looked at numbers to 10000 and place value and we've been practising addition to and subtraction from four digit numbers. We've also used this knowledge to solve word problems. In English, we've loved reading our story, The Pied Piper, this half term. We've loved the story itself and we've done some great things related to the book. The children loved writing questions and then doing some hot seating with some of the characters. Some of the children dressed up as one of the characters and, in character, answered questions from the other children. We're just writing out own version of part of the story of the Pied Piper. We've also learnt all about Canada and written some brilliant Non-Chronological Reports. We enjoyed putting on our Class Worship to tell you all about what we've learnt about Canada and the International Peace Day. In Science, we've had lots of fun making our own electricity circuits and trying to complete secret missions (shhh!!) In RE we've been thinking about the importance of prayer and in Geography, we've been learning all about the lines of latitude and longitude on the earth. In Art, we've looked at some of Gaudi's work and have created our own Gaudi styled animals using collaging techniques. We've enjoyed learning the song Mamma Mia in Music and have thought lots about creating safe passwords and usernames online. It's been a jam-packed first half term of Year 4, but we have loved getting to know each other and learning lots!

Have a lovely half term break. See you in two weeks time!
