We have lots of exciting things to learn this half term in Brazil Class. The children are settling in well and getting used to all the new routines.
In English, we are learning about stories with a journey/quest theme, where we have been practising our storytelling techniques and will be writing our own journey themed stories in a few weeks. Then we will move onto information texts linked to imaginary creatures and aliens! Our class novel is The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, which is set in the Amazon Rainforest.
In maths we are focusing on place value of numbers to a million. Rounding numbers, addition and subtraction work will follow on from this. We are following the Maths No Problem scheme.
Our science topic is Earth & Space. Already, the class have been excited to share their prior knowledge and think of really interesting questions that we could find out.
As an entry point for geography work for South America, we learned about the famous carnivals that take place annually in cities, such as Rio de Janeiro. The children enjoyed making some carnival masks and a few designed a costume. We will learn some more about Brazil and Chile this half term, including their physical and human features.
It’s been fabulous to see some wonderful art being produced already. I love art and look forward to teaching it this year. The children are looking forward to designing and creating some poppy themed sculptures.
