Maths

Here at St Leonard's we believe that Mathematics is an essential part of a balanced curriculum that is both well matched and challenging to learner’s needs . Through problem solving, used as the main vehicle in all lessons, learners will become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics and should be able to reason mathematically and solve problems by the application of their mathematical understanding. We use a nationally commissioned scheme to deliver mathematics here at St. Leonard's. More information about this can be found here.

KIRFs

To help develop children's fluency in Mathematics, we ask them to learn Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) each half term. We expect children to practise their KIRFs at least three times per week.

Please find below access to view and download the KIRFs for each year group.

Useful Maths Websites

Why should I play maths games with my child?

Children make progress best as mathematicians when they regularly repeat skills and practise them until they become embedded.  This can be quite a long process sometimes, and so the use of the context of an exciting game or interesting activity can be highly motivating.  In our experience, our children learn best when they are having fun and that's what games are for! While we have made every effort to ensure these websites are relevant and appropriate, we would strongly advise that children are supervised at all times when accessing the internet.

These websites have games and activities for all areas of Maths.

The websites are primarly games for developing rapid recall of times tables.

The nrich website has lots of challenging problems linked to all areas on Maths.

Please click on the different times table tests below to download them.
