Admissions

Thank you for considering our school!

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

Please contact our school office if you would like further details about joining our school family, we would be delighted to help you in securing a place for your child.

Parents considering applying to St. Leonard’s for the admission of their child/children are encouraged to watch our virtual school tour and read the information from Mrs Proctor which accompanies this.

How parents can apply for a school place:

If you are considering making an application for admission you are very welcome to contact the school office and make an appointment to visit.

Applying for a Reception (EYFS) place:

If your child is starting school for the first time and you would like admission to the Reception class (EYFS), applications must be made between the 1st of September and the 15th of January the year before your child is due to start school.

A child is required by law to attend school full time from the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday. Pupils are currently eligible to enter our school at the beginning of the school year in which they become 5 years old.

Supplementary Faith Form

If you are applying on faith grounds, please complete the Supplementary Faith form below so that this can be verified with the relevant priest/Father/Vicar.

Applying for an in term place (In Year admissions):

In Year admissions are admissions to school that take place outside the normal admissions rounds (i.e. Reception to Year 7).

If you are new to the area and require a school place or if you already reside in the area and you want to move your child from their current school to our school, your application should be made directly to our school and the child will be admitted where there are available places.

Before you apply to change schools, you will need to speak to the current school as well as ours.

Once you have decided to apply for an in term place, please complete the 'In Year admissions Form' at the bottom of this page and email to: office@st-leonards-pri.lancs.sch.uk

If you have any questions in relation to in-year admissions, please contact us either by email: bursar@st-leonards-pri.lancs.sch.uk or by phone 01772 556021. You may ring the office to confirm that the form has been received.

You should not use this process if you are applying for

  • a child living in another local authority area, such as Blackpool or Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council - please contact them directly
  • a child who has an education, health and care (EHC) plan - please contact the Inclusion Service for guidance
  • a Looked After Child - please apply directly through the local area education office

Notification time:

Term time admissions are usually resolved very quickly once both schools have been contacted and the reasons for the move has been discussed with the headteacher of both schools.  Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt and we will advise you of the outcome within a maximum of 15 school days.

If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list and you have the right to appeal.  Please see below for appeal information.  Please note, that the waiting list does not guarantee a place at our school and if your child is currently not in education you should either make an appeal to our school and/or apply for a place at an alternative school.

Right to appeal:

If you have not been offered the place you applied for then you have a right to appeal.

Please follow the link below for the process of appeal and for further information.
