French
Intent At St Leonard’s, our chosen language is French. The children are taught to develop an interest in learning other languages in a way that is enjoyable and stimulating. We develop children’s curiosity about languages and cultures so they can deepen their understanding of the world. We aim to embed the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing necessary to enable children to use and apply their French learning in a variety of contexts and lay the foundations for future language learning. This language teaching equips our children with the necessary skills and knowledge to visit, study and work in other countries. |
‘A different language, is a different vision of life.’
Fredrico Fellini
Implementation Our MFL curriculum is delivered weekly in Key Stage 2 and is designed progressively to develop skills in French. We use the ‘Rigolo’ scheme by Nelson Thornes plus additional, supplementary materials to deliver lessons. The lessons are designed to motivate children from the first moment and are mainly practical in focus. They are delivered primarily through use of the interactive whiteboard and involve a range of delivery styles including real-life videos, animated cartoons and songs. |
