  • Year 1 News

Fri 27 May 2022 Mrs Beard

We have had an exciting and productive half term. In english we have been writing wishing stories and thinking of different ways to start our sentences . During our maths lessons we have all learnt to tell the time, and have started to add together different amounts of money. We have produced some wonderful art inspired by Andy Goldsworthy .

We have all continued in our journey to get ready for year 2. Our targets on the recognition board have reflected this, we have been developing our listening skills and setting a good example to the younger children in school.

This week we did our very first whole school assembly. We taught the other children all about the life of the Queen . It was a great success, we were able to use our oracy skills to speak loudly and clearly so that everyone could hear us.

During our DT lessons we have made moving pictures with Mrs Parr. We had a great time and used the techniques Mrs Parr showed us to make a slider . We also enjoyed a dance workshop and conducted an experiment using raw eggs which was great fun.

  • China Class

    Fri 27 May 2022

This term has been a very busy one for China Class. The children worked really hard to be ready for the SATs.  During SATs week, every child tried their best and showed great perseverance and resilience.

The children then had an amazing time at Robin Wood.  They challenged themselves on all the activities: Piranaha Pool, Trapeze, Giant's Swing, Crate Challenge, Canoeing, Raft Building and many more!

China Class have also been writing dfferent pieces, including a letter to the Queen to suggest a different pet; inventing new rides for a theme park; and instructions for the world's most disgusting sandwich. Some of the class have also started making the fairground ride in DT.

The children also had fun taking part in the Jubilee lunch and dancing and they designed their own coat of arms.

  • Canada Class News

    Fri 27 May 2022

We have been very busy this half term in Canada class.

Firstly, we have written portal stories using the text Elf Road as a model. The children thought of great ideas for a new portal and a new setting that the portal could take us to. We really enjoyed sharing these stories with the Year 1 children.

In science, we have been busy learning about the teeth and digestive system. We have used practical equipment to investigate the role of each tooth and we worked scientifically to find which was the best toothpaste.

We have been working hard in our flute lessons and are looking forward to the upcoming concert where we can showcase our talent.

We ended this half term with a fantastic Platinum Jubilee week. We completed portraits of the Queen as well as decorating crowns to wear at our street party. We used our crowns to give us inspiration to write a story called The Lost Crown. We had some fantastic ideas including a story where the Queen's corgi ate her crown!

  • Brazil Class News

Thu 26 May 2022 Mrs Adam

Brazil class have had a brilliant half term!
In English, we have been looking at suspense stories using ‘Zelda Claw and the Rain Cat’ as a model.
We have learned about the jubilee in History and completed lots of activities to celebrate the jubilee including pop art of the Queen and writing their own poems. The children also took part in a dance workshop where they learned different dances across the seven decades.
In Science, we have been studying forces by doing lots of investigations including, foil boats to test water resistance, parachutes to test air resistance and using newton metres to measure force.

In Computing, the children have used Scratch to code their own jumping and catching game.

It has been a busy half term!

  • Platinum Planting Picnic

    Tue 24 May 2022

On Monday 23rd May, we invited all of our families and local community to our Platinum Planting Picnic. We all worked hard to plant red, white and blue flowers around our school grounds in celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Thank you to B&Q at Bamber Bridge who donated lots of plants, soil and gardening equipment as well as those families who donated items as well.

The kitchen staff made delicious biscuits and Mrs Blackledge baked dozens of amazing cakes for us to enjoy.
