  • Spring 1 Canada Class

Fri 10 Feb 2023 Mrs Lambert

Wow! What an amazing and very busy half term we have had in Canada class. The children produced some wonderful work in English using our model text The Tear Thief. They created their own version by changing the kind of thief. They added in all of the skills that they had been taught and the outcomes were fantastic.

It has been a tricky half term in maths. The children have been learning how to multiply and divide three digit numbers. They have had to apply their times tables knowledge in order to do this. I have to say that despite how hard it has been, that they have shown amazing resilience.

In science they have been learning about teeth and digestion. They were superb today in identifying carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and then deciding which kind of teeth they would need.

History has been good fun. The children have loved learning about aspects of Anglo – Saxon Britain. They know when they invaded and how long for. They have learned about who they were and why they invaded. They know that Britain was divided into several Kingdoms and that there were a number of leaders. Again, they produced fantastic and very artistic work.

In art the children have been learning how to create repeated patterns – tessellations. They had to think about complimentary colours and warm and cold shades too.

We have really enjoyed our history topic this half term learning all about the life of Sarah Forbes Bonetta . We learnt how difficult her life was as an enslaved child and how it changed when she came to England to live with Queen Victoria . At home we produced some wonderful work about other significant people in history including Florence Nightingale and Lily Parr.

In RE, we have learnt about Jesus and his special friends the disciples . We read stories about them and why Jesus is special .

In art, we have been been improving our drawing skills and have drawn feathers . We used this to construct birds and added our own  beautiful watercolour feathers.

In science we have investigated different materials and their properties. We tested to find the best materials to fix my umbrella, for a super hero cap and to protect an egg when it is dropped .

  • England Class Spring 1

Fri 10 Feb 2023 Miss Stephens

This half term, England class have been absolute superstars!

In English we learnt a text map for the story Owl Babies and innovated the characters Fox Babies. We wrote our own story books! We have also innovated fireworks poems using exciting firework words. Crackle! Whizz!

In maths we are developing our number sense, understanding what zero is and knowing if we move a set of objects around, the amount stays the same even though it looks different.

In RE, we love story time so we asked the question, what stories Jesus heard? We enjoyed reading the bible stories of Noah and the Ark, baby Moses and Jonah and the Whale.

Our afternoons have been filled to the brim with space themed learning. We have looked at the history of the moon landing, making comparisons of old and new. On Friday afternoons we made junk model rockets with our year 6 buddies. We have been incredibly creative this half term! Making our very own Starry Night painting, exploring mixing colours using the colour wheel, creating shades and tints along with our Chinese New Year Lanterns.

    Well done England class!

  • China Spring 1

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

Year 6 have worked incredibly hard this half term to make it onto our recognition board. They have been Right Time Rhinos, Stay on Topic Tigers, Make 100% effort, perfect partners and many more.

In RE, the children have been learning about why the significant events are important and why the Exodus is such a significant event in Jewish and Christian history. They have looked at the Seder plate and designed their own special meal.

In science, the evolution unit has been really interesting.  Year 6 looked at how animals and plants adapt to their environment, including the peppered moth and Darwin’s finches on the Galapagos Islands. They have also looked at how living things produce offspring that are not identical to their parents.

In maths, the children have tried really hard with percentages and ratio.

In English, China Class have written warning stories and a persuasive poster. They are using more grammar features when writing, like modal verbs and subordinating clauses.

For Safer Internet day, the class took part in a BBC live lesson and explored some of the risks of online gaming, and considered how to stay safe online.

We all really enjoyed our mystery readers and listening to the stories they read to use.  It inspired us to bring in books to read to the class.

  • Spain Spring 1 news

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

What a great half term we have had in Spain class! We have been working hard on our Recognition board targets. This helps us focus, concentrate and learn better. We have been calm koalas, right time rhinos and proud penguins!

In English, we have been learning the story of Pirate Tom and then we innovated this text to make our own stories up about a pirate. In non-fiction, we have been persuading each other to be a pirate. We learnt our text map so well.

In maths we have been adding and subtracting to 20. We have used mental methods, number lines, counters and tens frames.

In science, we have been learning all about different materials. In art, we have made birds out of foam boards, wire and feathers. They look fantastic! In music, we have been singing songs such as Daisy Do, Rock a bye baby and If you're happy and you know it clap your hands. We loved keeping fit in our PE lessons too.

  • Year 2 Spring News

    Wed 08 Feb 2023

We have had a very busy half term learning lots of new things!

We have really enjoyed our history topic about the great fire of London. We looked at pictures of London in 1666, Samuel Pepys' diary and watched videos to find out information about the event. Lots of children created fantastic artwork and writing at home to showcase what they had learnt. To link to this history topic, we had a visit from Bamber Bridge Fire Service where we learnt what to do in case of a fire in our homes.

In science, we continued our topic about materials. We investigated which materials can be bent, stretched, squashed and twisted. We also investigated which material makes the bounciest ball which we found to be sponge.

In RE, we have been learning about how Jesus was welcoming to everyone. We learnt Bible stories including The Ten Lepers and the Healing of the Blind Man. The children enjoyed looking at a variety of artwork showing Jesus with children and then creating their own.

  • Brazil Spring 1

    Tue 07 Feb 2023

In Year 5, it has been another busy term!

In English, we have been learning to write portal stories and instructions. We have shown a huge improvement in our writing. We have been looking at how and why we use relative clauses.

In art, we have been printing a monotype using carbon copy paper. Our artwork was inspired by the poem "Ghosts in the Garden." We displayed our artwork and demonstrated how to utilise carbon copy paper to our parents and grown-ups, which was very exciting!

In maths, we have been focusing on fractions. This included ordering, comparing, adding and subtracting. We will be finishing off our unit with multiplying fractions next term.

We have been learning about Jesus as a teacher in RE. With regard to this, we have produced some incredible artwork. We even examined British values and contrasted them with school and Christian values.
We have been studying the Tudors and their influence on Britain in history.

In science, we have been investigated forces including water resistance and friction. We investigated this by testing different shape boats in water and cars on difference surfaces.

The children have shown a big improvement in their behaviour this term. We have been concentrating on being focused and being kind to all.

We are looking forward to another busy term!
